Location and Facilities

The MARCS Flying Field is situated at 5075 County Hwy TT, Cottage Grove, WI (43.126597, -89.170778). Approved as an FAA-Recognized Identification Area (FRIA), with the identifier 2023-CBO-00267-FRIA, this field offers a safe and organized environment for flying RC planes and drones.

Field Amenities

The MARCS Flying Field boasts a range of amenities to enhance the flying experience:

  • 375' x 34' fabric runway
  • Five marked pilot stations
  • Raised pilot platform
  • Fabric taxiways and pit area
  • Pit area workbenches
  • Solar charging station with AC and 12V DC outputs
  • Adjustable pilot sun shields
  • Wind indicators
  • Spectator area with picnic tables and porta-potty

These amenities ensure that both pilots and spectators can enjoy a comfortable and convenient flying experience.

Field Usage Guidelines

The Madison Area Radio Control Society maintains specific guidelines to ensure safety and enjoyment for all members and guests:

  • MARCS members can enjoy the Flying Field year-round.
  • Electric and Free Flight flying is permitted from dawn to dusk.
  • Fueled airplanes documented under 85 decibels can be flown from 10 am to 7 pm.
  • All pilots must have active AMA membership, with the exception of new pilots for two buddy-box sessions.
  • Guest pilots (maximum of two days per year) are allowed if accompanied by a MARCS member pilot.
  • Night flying is allowed by planned event only.
  • Pets are not permitted.
  • Unattended vehicles are not allowed.
  • The solar charging station should be used to charge under 6 amps per battery station.
