Sheboygan Area Radio Kontrol Society (SHARKS): Promoting RC Aviation Excellence

The Sheboygan Area Radio Kontrol Society (SHARKS) is dedicated to promoting the hobby of flying radio-controlled (RC) aircraft. Established in the late 1960s, the SHARKS club has grown from a small group of enthusiasts to a well-organized and thriving community. With excellent facilities and a variety of events and exhibitions throughout the year, SHARKS is a premier destination for RC aviation enthusiasts in the Sheboygan area.

History and Growth

The SHARKS Club began in the late 1960s when a small group of RC enthusiasts started flying wherever they could find available space. In the early 1990s, they pooled their resources to purchase 28 acres of land ideally located between Hwy 23 and County Road C, connecting Plymouth and Sheboygan Falls, Wisconsin. Since then, the club has made significant improvements to its facilities.

Premier Facilities

Today, SHARKS Field boasts impressive facilities to accommodate RC flyers of all preferences:
  • Paved north-south and east-west runways
  • Neatly trimmed grassy areas for soft surface takeoffs and landings
  • Clubhouse with a large four-garage-door building
  • Pilots-only pit areas marked off with chain-link fences for safety
  • Five chain-linked flight stations on each runway, adhering to AMA regulations
  • Electricity at the field houses and a spacious elevated sun shelter
  • Outdoor pedestal for camper use

Support for New Flyers

Seasoned members of the Sheboygan Area Radio Kontrol Society offer assistance to anyone interested in learning to fly. Utilizing trainers and buddy-box systems, experienced pilots help new flyers gain confidence and skills in a safe and supportive environment.

Exciting Developments

In 2020, the club made several significant improvements:
  • Clearing trees and brush along the highway
  • Installing new road signs for better driveway visibility
  • Developing two RC electric-only race tracks: a 1/2 scale mile oval and an off-road track
  • Creating an RC truck rock-climbing area to expand membership
  • Introducing 1/10th scale 1/4 mile drag racing, which has become a major attraction
