About Us
The Eau Claire Flying Eagles Ski Club is a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting both recreational and competitive skiing at all levels within the Chippewa Valley. Our focus includes ski jumping, cross-country skiing, and alpine skiing. We provide a positive, healthy alternative to overly competitive sports. With a family-friendly atmosphere, our club offers youth the opportunity to excel both on the slopes and in life!
Mission
Our mission is to preserve and nurture the cherished tradition of skiing in the Chippewa Valley while fostering a lifelong passion for outdoor sports. We aim to engage individuals by encouraging participation in ski disciplines through practical, hands-on experiences.
Eau Claire has a proud legacy of over 130 years of ski jumping. The Flying Eagles Ski Club proudly carries on this tradition by hosting annual tournaments at both the Mt. Washington and Silver Mine Nordic Ski Complexes.
History
The roots of Eau Claire's ski jumping history date back to 1886, when Norwegian immigrants founded the Dovre Ski Club. Over the years, and through several name changes, the club evolved into the Eau Claire Ski Club, which is now known as the Flying Eagles Ski Club—one of the oldest ski clubs in the United States.
Ski jumping was the first prominent ski discipline in America, preceding alpine, cross-country, and telemark skiing. The long-standing legacy of the Eau Claire Ski Club solidifies Eau Claire as the birthplace of skiing in America.
In the 1930s, the Flying Eagles Ski Club was formed, quickly becoming a significant force in the community. The club’s leadership sparked a surge in participation, leading to around 250 local youths skiing across six different clubs and five ski jumps, including the East Side Hill, Carson Park, Ninth Ward, Mt. Simon, and Fourth Ward. In 2015, the Flying Eagles Ski Club and the Eau Claire Ski Club merged, uniting to form a single, strong organization!
