Symco Weekender: A Celebration of Classic Cars and Retro Culture
The
Symco Weekender is a unique event that brings together classi
c car enthusiasts, rockabilly music lovers, and fans of vintage culture for a weekend-long celebration. Held at the Union Thresheree Grounds, this event features classic car shows, pin-up contests, vintage camping, and much more, making it a must-visit for anyone interested in mid-century Americana.
A Tradition of Classic Cars
Now in its 12th year, the
Symco Weekender only allows vehicles from 1964 or earlier that meet strict show criteria on the main grounds. This policy preserves the authentic atmosphere of Unionville. Upon arrival, all show vehicles are inspected to ensure they adhere to traditional styles and equipment from 1948-1964. The gate inspectors have the final say, ensuring the event maintains its high standards.
Vintage Camping and Swap Spaces
The show grounds feature 30 acres of camping, complete with limited electrical hook-ups. Pre-registration is highly recommended to reserve your spot. The event also offers over 150 swap spaces, also with limited electrical hook-ups. Attendees are encouraged to keep their swap merchandise mid-century or automotive-related, enhancing the event's vintage feel.
Over 100 vintage campers line the Little Wolf River during the show, creating a picturesque scene that transports visitors to a simpler time. Strolling through the vintage camping area is a highlight for many attendees.
Exciting Activities and Entertainment
The
Symco Weekender offers a variety of activities and entertainment throughout the weekend:
- Mini-bike drag races on the dirt track, with all bikes inspected for safety.
- A traditional pin-up contest on the bandshell on Saturday afternoon.
- Live music acts in the dance hall and tent stage, along with over a dozen DJs playing vinyl in the Unionville Saloon.
- A pinewood derby on a vintage wooden track, featuring classes for Boy Scouts of America rules and unlimited entries.
Supporting Charity and Community
The event features a charity pinstripe/art auction on Friday evening and Saturday afternoon, with proceeds going to The 4th H.O.O.A.H of Wisconsin. Additionally, the Symco Weekender raffles off a traditionally styled hotrod each year, with proceeds benefiting veterans' charities. In 2018, donations supported the Manawa Area Veterans Freedom Park.
Delicious Food and Beverages
Visitors can enjoy a variety of food and drinks provided by the UTC, as well as other food vendors. Pabst Blue Ribbon (PBR) will be available for $1 per cup and $5 per pitcher (photo ID required).
